The West Coast Fan Society (WCFS) and The West Coast Science Fiction Association (WCSFA) announced today that the show will go on! WCSFA has agreed to accept stewardship of the Northwest Fan Fest convention from WCFS to ensure it will continue as the popular festival of genre media, cosplay and gaming that is has become, and will have the opportunity to grow to its fullest potential.
In the immortal words of Cameron Locke, president of WCFS, “The rumours of NWFF’s demise are greatly exaggerated!”
This year will see several smaller events hosted by WCSFA to promote all the most vital elements of NWFF and keep the heart of NWFF pumping.
“Northwest Fan Fest fills a vital niche in our community, it’s our duty to support it and help it grow,” said Chris Sturges, president of WCSFA, “We are planning a number of smaller events this year to support the community that puts on and attends NWFF.”
The events planned so far include a Walkoff-Rager event, a Games-only event, a Costume and Cosplay workshop series, and a Cosplay picnic. If you are interested in helping with these events or have an idea for a fan event, please contact the WCSFA Secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is with great sadness that we have to announce that we will not be moving forward with Northwest Fan Fest 2016, due to take place this July. This decision was not made lightly and we sincerely apologize to all the people this decision affects: the fans, exhibitors, guests, community partners, venues and all of our supporters both local and beyond.
We know many of you will be disappointed at this news, some of you even frustrated or upset. However in light of recent high profile event failures and cancellations, we feel it would be irresponsible to risk our fan’s resources and goodwill by hosting an event that would have been below our standards, and your expectations.
Full refunds will be offered within a timely manner to all who have purchased memberships, exhibitors spaces, or sponsorship packages.
It is our hope and goal to build on what we have built for 2016, and redirect it to make an even more amazing 2017 event. But we need your help to make this a reality. Over the next few months we will be announcing different ways you can get involved, either by joining the NWFF 2017 team, becoming a sponsor or event partner, or attending different themed fundraisers.
Thank you for your understanding. We will be back, and we will be awesome!
Are you a minion or a sidekick? Perhaps you’re the hero NWFF deserves. Or are you the mastermind behind it all?
Northwest Fan Fest is a weekend packed with celebrities, exhibitors, and tons of programming on a huge variety of topics and interests. Featuring musical performances, comedy shows, contests, massive gaming tournaments, and a Saturday street festival, there is something for everyone at NWFF!
We’ve got a lot of new things happening for 2016, including a street fair on the Saturday! Yes, we’ll be closing down a part of Columbia Street for the festivities. As well, general admission to Northwest Fan Fest is free! You will not require a badge to attend panels, play casual games or see the exhibitors. Tournaments and special events may require an entry fee.
However, without the generosity of our supporters, the West Coast Fan Society would be hard pressed to maintain the quality of Northwest Fan Fest and continue to keep the festival free for all to attend in future years. We have several tiers of supporter memberships for you to choose from, starting at just $10! Choose your membership and find out your level!
Have you been considering volunteering for Northwest Fan Fest? Now is the time to sign up!Â

Geekenders is a Vancouver theatre troupe celebrating alternative beauty and pop culture and producing Vegas-style nerdy spectaculars, plays, events, and dances. Their shows, described as “geeky fun meets Moulin Rouge and the Muppet Show,” have drawn thousands of audience members over the last two years to shows ranging from a send-up of The Wizard of Oz to a cabaret-style show exploring the world of Doctor Who. The performers have entertained over 6,000 people at their sold-out Star Wars shows (“A Nude Hope,” “The Empire Strips Back” and “Reveal of the Jedi”.)
